First team blow Chemfica away in the Winter chill scoring 11 goals away from home and making a statement for the New Year

Hexham Seniors made a statement of intent for the New Year, with a thumping 1 -11 away victory at Newcastle Chemfica Reserves in the Northern Alliance Division 2 League. In one of the few games that avoided the dreaded weather cancellations, the game went ahead on 3G at Newcastle University Cochrane Park in chilly conditions. Hexham manager Stephen Donnison put out, what was likely to be the youngest Hexham Football Club First Team ever, and the youthful side rewarded their gaffer with a superb display to add to their impressive goal tally of late. Straight from the off Hexham looked up for the challenge and were too fast and too strong for their Division 2 opponents with 3 goals in the first 12 minutes. The first was a great team goal finished off by the returning Luke Robinson-Crow after good work by George Brady. A second was quickly added by Fionn Struthers with a good finish on the left hand side. The third followed quickly after by in form striker Nathan Nesbitt, neatly placed into the bottom corner after good work down the right from his twin brother Alex. Sam Clarke went close to adding a fourth with a left foot shot before Charlie Clark netted for well deserved fourth. Charlie had gone close on a couple of earlier occasions.
Despite what was a very good defensive display from a youthful back 3 of Jake Dunstan, Max Gradwell and Captain James McIntyre, Chemfica managed to pull one back from a corner on 38 minutes. However, Luke Robinson and George Brady added a 5th and 6th before half time highlighting a dominant display. Hexham had also hit the post and bar in the first half and the keeper was also in fine form to keep the score down.

Second half there were 3 changes made at Half Time with club captain Dale Graham, Jake Robson and 16 years old Jacob McAlindon making his debut for the Seniors on his 16th birthday. McAlindon replaced Alex Nesbitt on the right hand side and he is another impressive youngster who has been at the club since 7 years old. The second half display showed why he is deserving of his chance as he went on to make an unforgettable debut, getting himself on the score sheet twice, the first and Hexham's 7th mid way through the second half squeezed under the GK.
In fairness to Chemfica Reserves it was a much improved second half by them as they came out fighting and made it difficult, also hitting the post and bar as they chased the game on the break. Unfortunately for them, Hexham's fitness and sharpness shone through and once Second half substitute Jake Robson made it eight the home teams resolve started to break. Brady got his second of the game with a thunderous 9th after good work and an assist from McAlindon. The 16 year old went on to mark his impressive debut further as he added his second to get the team to double figures and skipper James McIntyre capped off a great team performance with the 11th from the penalty. McIntyre the stand in captain for the first half was fouled in the box after a great run down the left side. Subs Micky Cleminson and Jake Robson went close to boosting the goal difference but the score line was impressive enough. Hexham added plus 10 goals to the goal difference and scoring an impressive 24 goals in their last 5 matches. A great team performance that makes a statement of intent going forward for the club. Man of the match was awarded to Jacob McAlindon after his impressive second half showing / debut.
